NBA Rumors: Celtics, Clippers May Dangle Future Picks For Bobby Portis

With the NBA trade deadline fast approaching, one of the names that have been in the rumor mill is Bobby Portis of the New York Knicks. Reports have it that the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics are interested in the 24-year-old – someone who can certainly help offensively.

Looking at his numbers, Portis is averaging 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He also owns a 44.3-percent shooting clip, something contending NBA teams could bank on once the postseason wars come around. Of the three teams mentioned, the Clippers and the Celtics loom as sensible destinations, SNY.tv reported. But there are questions on his defensive capability.

Portis has never been known to be a good defender, possibly a point for considering for interested teams. The Lakers have their share of offensive firepower, same with the Clippers. The Celtics could use some help, relying heavily on Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. But one thing all teams could need is some help defensively as well.

At this point, adjustments may be needed by head coaches in this aspect. There are several players who they can target but Portis is a promising young player. He had his best years with the Chicago Bulls and has always known to be someone that can be relied upon.

With the Knicks well on their way to another disappointing season, several players aside from Portis have been mentioned in the NBA trade rumor mill. Julius Randle, Marcus Morris, and Dennis Smith Jr. could be on their way out as well – targets other playoff-bound teams would love to add.

But the payoff is what assets will the Gotham-based squad get? Future picks are at the top of the list, something only the Clippers and the Celtics own. The Lakers don’t have much to offer unless they trade some of their current players who have hardly seen action.
