Banko Perlas Spikers get revenge by defeating Motolite Power Builders in three

The last time these two teams met, the Motolite Power Builders edged the Banko Perlas Spikers in five thrilling sets, with the deciding set finishing at 19-17 in favor of the Godfrey Okumu-coached squad.

This time around, Banko Perlas made sure that there will be no nail-biting results as Apichat Kongsawat’s crew dominated the Power Builders in three sets during their Premiere Volleyball League Open Conference 2019 match at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Both teams traded points early in the opening set. However, the Perlas Spikers established a 21-17 advantage courtesy of Dzi Gervacio’s exploits. The Power Builders responded with three quick points to narrow the deficit to one. But that was all they wrote as Banko finished the first frame with a 4-1 run to settle the tally at 25-21.

Motolite held a 14-13 advantage in set two before the Spikers blasted five unanswered scores and never looked back. Gervacio’s attack that went off Isa Molde’s hands gave the black shirts set point while a subsequent Molde attack did not clear the net to end the second chapter at 25-19.

The competing squads were staring at a 12-12 tie in set three when the Spikers connected on three quick scores. However, the Power Builders made two straight to establish a 15-14 count. Tots Carlos’ service error doubled the Spikers’ lead, 16-14. The white shirts never recovered as Cathy Bersola’s quick attack from the middle gave Banko match point. Nicole Tiamzon’s strike glanced off Carlos’ arms before sailing out to end the set and the match, 25-21.

Due to her timely scores that doused Motolite’s momentum, Suzanne Roces was named player of the game with nine attacks,  three aces, and a block. Gervacio led all scorers with 20 while Carlos paced Motolite with 14 markers.

The Banko Perlas Spikers (7-5) will try to get two wins in a row when they face the Chef’s Classic Red Spikers on October 6. Meanwhile, Motolite (7-4) is hoping to return to their winning ways against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on October 2.
