PVL: PetroGazz pounces on Pablo injury, stops Motolite

Games Wednesday
2 p.m. – Choco Mucho vs Air Force
4 p.m. – PacificTown Army vs BaliPure
6 p.m. – BanKo-Perlas vs Motolite

PetroGazz kept its win streak going while snapping Motolite’s own run with a 25-21, 25-16, 28-26 victory last night to move to joint second with idle BanKo-Perlas in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

But it took the Angels a lot of hard work – plus a costly loss in a key Motolite personnel – to carve out the win, their fourth straight and fifth overall against two defeats.

Myla Pablo, who had to sit out the early part of the Reinforced Conference due to lower back injury that told heavily on Motolite’s campaign, sustained a foot injury before she could even launch her attack with the score tied at 9 in the second frame and Motolite down by one set.

She rolled to the ground in pain and was lifted to the dugout and had her right foot iced.

But though it yielded the set to go 2-set down, Motolite still fought it out in the third, even wresting a 21-18 lead before PetroGazz came through with four straight hits to regain control then wore down its rival in extension to hack out the victory.

It was a sorry setback for Motolite, which came into the match bristling with confidence coming off a four-game romp but came out of it with one less ace player and a 4-2 slate.

Forced to an extended duel in the opening frame, Air Force leaned on its experience to ground Chef’s Classics then re-asserted its might in the next and held sway in the third to fashion out a 26-24, 25-15, 25-22 victory and nail the elusive win in the first game.
