PBA DL: Alberei finally barges into win column

ALBEREI finally broke through in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, averting an early 10-point meltdown to defeat Italiano’s Homme, 61-51, Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Jomari Lacastesantos flirted with a triple-double as he led the Kings with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

Ex-pro Jonathan Parreño supplied 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Paulino Rebollos chimed in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

“I’m glad na nakuha namin,” said coach Jayson Cariaga as his side improved to 1-4 in Group B.

Alberei had actually taken control of the match after building a 19-9 lead early in the second period, but Italiano’s Homme fought back and ended the third canto with a 9-0 blitz to grab a 37-34 lead.

But the Kings were too determined not to let the game slip away. They responded aptly in the final period, unloading a 7-2 spurt to turn a five-point lead to a 57-47 lead with 2:56 left to play.

Marlon Monte had 11 points and eight rebounds to lead Italiano’s Homme, which absorbed its third straight defeat and fell to 1-3.

Mar Villahermosa was the only other double-digit scorer for Italiano’s Homme with 10 markers.
