‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3 Renewal: HBO, David E. Kelley Say No More
Enjoy what you can for Big Little Lies season 2 because this will be the final run for the show. HBO and producer David E. Kelley expressed that there will be no more third season.
Speaking with TV Line, HBO president Casey Bloys said that a Big Little Lies season 3 will not be realistic. Apparently, they won’t be able to bring back the cast, given their very busy schedules.
“They are some of the busiest actresses working in Hollywood. We have deals with some of them — Nicole [Kidman] is doing her next show [The Undoing] with us. I just think it’s not realistic.”
Kidman already spoke up about a potential Big Little Lies season 3 in an interview with Variety last year. The actress expressed that putting back the group together will be a real challenge.
Executive producer and show creator David E. Kelley, on the other hand, said in February that there are no plans for Big Little Lies season 3. The second season, on the other hand, will end properly so that fans will not be shortchanged and disappointed.
Big Little Lies was originally meant to be a one-off series. The first season was supposed to be its fitting end but HBO decided to do a second season off the book source.
“We wrote it as a one-off and we ended it in a way that was very lyrical. But we ended on a lie. I get so protective of characters and series, too, that I don’t want to damage them in any way, and I so loved how we ended year one and I thought, Let’s just leave it at that,” Kelley said.
The writer and producer was convinced to do the second season if they could cop Meryl Streep. When that happened, Kelley and the rest of the cast and crew decided to go for it.
Big Little Lies season 2 will air its finale on Sunday, July 21, on HBO.
