Blaze Spikers cop PSL crown

Petron capped its magical campaign with a sizzling performance as it dominated F2 Logistics, 26-24, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, to claim the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix crown before another massive crowd late Saturday night at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

With imports Stephanie Niemer and Katherine Bell anchoring the offense down the stretch, the Blaze Spikers hung tough en route to an impressive win in Game 3 of their best-of-three finals series of this tourney that has ESPN5 and 5Plus as broadcast partners.

It was Petron sixth overall title in this prestigious women’s club tourney bankrolled by Asics, Mueller, Mikasa, Senoh, Team Rebel Sports, Bizooku, UCPB Gen, Cocolife, Hotel Sogo and Data Project.

It was also the first title for Bell and Niemer, who played with fire in their eyes to avenge their respective setbacks in 2018 and 2016, respectively.

This finals series was not for the faint of heart.

F2 Logistics took Game 1 in four sets to effectively spoil Petron’s bid of sweeping the tournament it first did in the 2015 All-Filipino Conference.

But after an open-forum session where the Blaze Spikers blurted everything out and assured each other that they will stick together no matter what, Petron stormed back and conquer Game 2, setting the stage for this thrilling Game 3 battle, where only the strongest will definitely survive.
