UAAP: AdU secures top ranking, DLSU batters in semis

Adamson University secured top ranking in the Final Four with an abbreviated 9-2 romp of National University Thursday in the UAAP Season 91 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Lady Falcons needed only four innings to improve the league’s best record at 9-1, with two matches remaining on their elimination round assignments, while giving the Lady Bulldogs a huge blow on their bid to make it to the next phase with their third consecutive defeat.

“At least, top seed kami ngayon. Ang mentality namin ngayon is mag-prepare para sa semis,” said Adamson University coach Ana Santiago.

In other games, De La Salle needed extra innings to escape University of the East, 8-7, and claim the second semifinals berth, while Charlotte Sales belted two home runs as the University of Santo Tomas moved a game ahead in the race for the last Final Four slot with an abbreviated 7-0 win over Ateneo.

The Lady Batters improved to 7-3, as the Taft-based squad also boosted their bid for a twice-to-beat semifinals incentive by holding a one-game lead over the third-running Tigresses, who sport a 6-4 card.

UST, for its part, has maintained its cushion over University of the Philippines and NU, both at 5-5, in the chase for the last Final Four slot.

In baseball, De La Salle overwhelmed UST, 21-5, to move in a tie with Ateneo, which lost to NU, 1-6, in first place at 6-2.

Titleholder Adamson University beat UP, 6-4, in the other game. The Falcons improved to a 4-4 slate to level with the Growling Tigers in the third spot.
