ANTIPOLO — Leo Isaac didn’t waste time bringing his winning ways to the Bacoor Strikers.
Taking over as head coach of the Strikers 24 hours before the team’s game against Rizal, Isaac quickly led the team to the win column in his coaching debut as Bacoor won over Rizal, 74-63, in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Ynares Center.
Gab Banal finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and eight assists to power the Strikers to their third straight win and improve the team’s record to 7-4.
But the biggest story in Bacoor’s win was Isaac, who came in on the eve of the match.
“Bunot-bunot lang ginawa ko kasi hindi ko pa masyadong kilala players eh, lahat sinusubukan ko,” added Isaac, who took over the reins from Budds Reyes.
With Reyes out, his son, Mikee Reyes, who happens to be the premier point guard of the Strikers, also left the team. He missed the team’s practice presided by Isaac then failed to show up in the game Tuesday night.
Congressman Strike Revilla, one of the managing partners of the team, said they are now entertaining thoughts of trading Reyes and heeding to the player’s request.
Earlier, Cebu nipped Valenzuela, 78-75.
Patrick Cabahug scored 13 points to lead the Sharks to their first back-to-back wins.
The Sharks improved their win-loss record to 3-8.
