“Supergirl” Season 2 will have a familiar face when it returns. Kara’s cousin, Clark, also known as Superman, will be making his first appearance on the series. Who will play the character?

According to TV Guide, casting for Superman on “Supergirl” is already in process and the character is expected to be in the first two episodes back. The role is still a strictly 2-episode appearance for now, but anything can happen with superheroes.

Back in the first season, Superman did actually appear on “Supergirl” as part of Kara’s alternate reality. In the scene, her planet Krypton still existed and Superman was a 13-year-old Kal-El. His appearance in the second season seems to tie with the cliffhanger from “Supergirl” Season 1, as the episode ended with Kara discovering a pod that’s similar to hers. It is presumed that this pod is Kal-El’s.

Meanwhile, fans are hoping that The CW picks a great star to play Superman. Now that “Supergirl” is in The CW, it’s expected that the network will be getting someone that will appeal to its general audience — teenagers.

It should be noted that The CW used to have a Superman show via “Smallville,” which ran for 10 seasons. It’s unclear if the network is considering asking Tom Welling to play the part of Superman, although fans are actually quite hopeful. Welling was the Superman in “Smallville.”

Other top fan picks include Matt Bomer, Ian Harding, Chris Wood and Chris Gorham, per TV Line.  “Supergirl” will debut its second season on The CW this October.
