Kevin Bacon is returning to television with “Tremors.” The reboot will have the actor reprising his movie role as Valentine McKee.
Per
Hollywood Reporter, the actor will also be filling an executive producer role for the TV adaptation, which will be under Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Productions. The drama series will have Andrew Miller (“The Secret Circle”) as scribe.
Entertainment Weekly reported that no network is still attached to the series, but multiple outlets are said to be interested in having “Tremors” in their schedule.
The movie, which featured giant killer worms, was released in 1990 and earned over $16.6 million in the United States. “Tremors” spawned a few sequels directly on video and there was also a 2003 TV series that aired for one season on the then Sci-Fi Channel.
“Tremors” is Bacon’s next project after “The Following” was not renewed on Fox. “I’d love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later,” the actor
told IGN back in May. The actor has long been keen in developing his former movie into a television show, especially with today’s digital technology. However, Bacon says, the lack of special effects in the film is what made “Tremors” so special. “Part of what’s great about that movie is there are next to no digital effects. The monsters are done with puppetry, and it’s still off, funny and scary – it’s a cool accomplishment.”
