Leaders sign KL Declaration on Establishment of ASEAN Community
Pres. Aquino on Sunday joined his regional counterparts in signing the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the Establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Community which will be launched on Dec. 31.
State media said the declaration of the establishment of ASEAN Community is one of the highlights of the 27th ASEAN Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
Other leaders who signed the declaration were Indonesian Pres. Joko Widodo, Myanmar Pres. Thein Sein, and Prime Ministers Najib Abdul Razak (Malaysia), Thongsing Tammavong (Laos), Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah (Brunei), Hun Sen (Cambodia), Lee Hsien Loong (Singapore), Prayut Chan O-Cha (Thailand), and Nguyen Tan Dung (Vietnam).
The state leaders also signed the KL Declaration on “ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together,” the region’s post-2015 vision which charts the direction of the ASEAN Community in the next 10 years.
The signed documents were presented to ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh of Vietnam, it was reported.##
