‘Supergirl’ Takes Flight on CBS tonight; New Superhero Series Gets Fantastic Raves
The much-awaited debut of CBS’ “Supergirl” airs tonight and it’s already receiving good reviews from critics.
The Los Angeles Times said that the show is a natural fit for every women and for the network as well. The news outlet also described the series as “great for television.”
Vox stated that “Supergirl” is an ambitious show, but it “lionizes joy” so that it makes for better viewing. Though it’s not a perfect series, it’s bound to be a show that everyone will love.
The Guardian describes the series as “very conventional” but the show has “heart and optimism,” where the hero “who operates mostly in the daylight and brings that sunshine along with her.”
The Verge applauds the show for having powerful, three-dimensional women to portray onscreen. The review believes that the pilot episode was successful in showing a “bona fide female superhero.”
The Telegraph thinks “Supergirl” is a champion and finds the performance of the lead, Melissa Benoist, as one of the show’s big plusses.
The New York Times finds the show upbeat and Benoist’s portrayal of Supergirl is infectious. But generally speaking, it’s an average show with an “engaging” star.”
Boston Herald said that the show is “super,” with Benoist giving a winning performance. The special effects dazzles and the sisterhood love abounds.
