Lip Synch Battle gets a 2nd season

The latest TV guilty pleasure “Lip Sync Battle” has been renewed for a second season on Spike TV. The network has lined up 20 more episodes when it returns in 2016.
Based on a segment from “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” the singing show pits celebrities with each other while they pretend to sing hit songs. When “Lip Sync Battle” debuted last April 2, the show became an instant hit for the cable network, raking in the largest audience for its unscripted programs. About 3 million viewers watch the series, while online, the show managed to hit 107 million streaming hits in its 3 week of airing. It’s most popular episode features Anne Hathaway lip synching to Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” complete with props.

“Lip Sync Battle is a television and viral rock star for Spike. We are thrilled to be renewing Lip Sync Battle whose success is a direct result of the brilliance and creativity of our producers, the brave performers, and of course the coolest new duo on television, LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen,” said the president of Spike TV, Kevin Kay in a statement given to news outlets.

The series has been developed by actors John Krasinki and Stephen Merchant and executive produced by Matador Content and Eight Million Plus Productions.
