Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Spinoff Not Dead and ‘Still A Possibility’ Says ABC Head

Agents_of_S.H.I.E.L.D._logoWhile ABC has announced they will not be pushing with the planned spinoff of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” this coming season, the network president said the project is not altogether dead.

During ABC’s Upfronts presentation Tuesday, Paul Lee, the president of ABC Entertainment Group said that, “it certainly is a possibility of spinning them off.”

“We absolutely love those characters on ‘SHIELD,” Lee adds in an interview with Variety, noting how the characters have been really good in the show’s second season.

Back in April, we reported that the spinoff to SHIELD was in the works, but a few weeks after this was announced by the network, the plan was scrapped. SHIELD, however was renewed for a third season and will be back in Fall. The spinoff would have starred Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, whose characters have appeared in the SHIELD series as guests.

“We thought the right thing now is to leave them on S.H.I.E.L.D., because S.H.I.E.L.D. is so strong on the moment,” Lee said further.

The spinoff may still happen in the next seasons.

Meanwhile, the network has also renewed “Agent Carter,” which had a limited run of eight episodes when it debuted in January. The show will be back for Season 2, scheduled for midseason next year.

ABC has renewed most of its existing programs, including its long list of comedy shows and fan favorites like  “Castle,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “Nashville.” Newcomers “Secrets and Lies” and “American Crime” are also returning in the Fall for another run.
