The Black Hood mystery continues to heat up on “Riverdale” season 2 with the small town practically in a state of panic. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) has taken the heat for his vigilante motives though folks are more curious about who the masked assailant could be.

The big twist was the part where Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) got a letter from the Black Hood himself. Revealing that he was doing it all because the ponytail-blond inspired him, it has now become a Nancy Drew-type of a mystery plaguing “Riverdale.”

The twister came towards the end of the fourth episode of “Riverdale” titled “The Town That Dreaded Sundown.” Betty and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) thought that the Black Hood would be striking at the Town Hall where an emergency meeting was called by Mayor Sierra McCoy (Robin Givens). The lights did go out but any threat was averted when Betty pulled the fire alarm.

While that was going on, Archie and his Red Circle buddies were rumbling with the Southside Serpents. It was an old-fashioned melee though Dilton Doiley (Major Curda) ended up getting knifed in the thigh.

Who stabbed Doiley?

Curiously, there were supposedly no weapons in the rumble. The Serpents may have snuck out one in the chaos. But what if there were no actual weapons around? What if the Black Hood quietly snuck in and unfortunately stabbed Dilton.

Worse, what if Dilton was the next victim? Thankfully, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) fired Archie’s gun to put an end to the ruckus.

Ultimatum for Betty

Chapter 18 of “Riverdale” is titled “When a Stranger Calls,” likely picking up from the last episode scene where Betty got a call from the Black Hood. Based on the synopsis from TV Guide, Betty will be given an ultimatum which could destroy some of her closest relationships.

There are other things to consider on “Riverdale” moving forward. There is the vested interest of Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) and Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols). Both will reportedly court investors for the SoDale open house in the fifth episode.

There is also the entry of Nick St. Clair (Graham Philips), visiting Veronica. Could he be the Black Hood or become the assailant’s next target? How about Chic Cooper (who is believed to be the Black Hood)? When will he make his appearance?

Things are heating up on “Riverdale,” darker as promised by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The show returns on Nov. 8 on the CW. Check out the promo trailer below.
