Syfy is beefing up its 2016 slate with a “Van Helsing” TV series.

Instead of putting vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing in the central stroy, the planned TV show will be about Vanessa, Van Helsing’s daughter. She has been “resurrected give years in the future,” to fight for humans following vampires overrunning the world.

“Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules,” said executive producer Chad Oakes in a press release published on Entertainment Weekly. “The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”

“Van Helsing reimagines a classic story in a compelling new way, featuring a bold and complex heroine,” said Chris Regina, Syfy’s SVP for Program Strategy, according to Deadline.

Neil LaBute has been task as the showrunner and the series is expected to deliver 13 episodes with a fall 2016 premiere date.
