Marcos Pushes Housing Agenda With Personal Visit to Davao Site
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. touched down in Davao City on Tuesday, July 28, with a clear message: Affordable housing remains a top priority for his administration. The President personally inspected People’s Ville in Barangay Riverside, Calinan District, one of the country’s largest socialized housing projects.
More than 400 families already call the vertical housing development home, and Marcos walked through the completed buildings himself to see the results of his administration’s flagship housing program up close.
Officials Say Presidential Visit Reinforces Housing Commitment
People’s Ville falls under the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program, spearheaded by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) under Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, working through the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), led by President and CEO Federico Laxa. Marcos was joined on the visit by Aliling, Laxa, and Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Marilene Acosta.
Aliling said the project reflects how the Expanded 4PH is turning the President’s housing vision into tangible outcomes, calling it “a testament to our commitment to making housing more accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of our people.”
Laxa echoed that sentiment, saying the President’s visit pushes SHFC to work harder under the Expanded 4PH. “His visit inspires us to work even harder to deliver housing that gives Filipino families not only a secure home, but also dignity, stability, and hope for a better future,” he said.
For beneficiaries like Jeralie Diansay, whose unit Marcos visited personally, the gesture carried real weight. “Thank you po, President Marcos sa napakagandang project na ito,” she said. “Marami po kayong natutulungan na mga pamilyang Pilipino, especially po ‘yung mga low income.” (Thank you, President Marcos, for this wonderful project. You are helping so many Filipino families, especially those with low income.)
Massive Housing Project Still Expanding Across the Country
Situated along the Davao-Bukidnon Road, People’s Ville spans more than 14 hectares of SHFC-owned land. When finished, it will house 7,200 units across 72 five-story buildings, each with a floor area of roughly 28 square meters. So far, 26 buildings totaling 2,600 units have been completed, with four more buildings, or 400 additional units, currently under construction.
Tuesday’s visit marked the second time in about three months that Marcos has personally inspected an SHFC housing site. He toured Crystal Peak Estates in San Fernando City, Pampanga, back in April, underscoring a pattern of hands-on presidential involvement in the administration’s socialized housing push.
Beyond People’s Ville, SHFC is developing similar vertical housing projects nationwide, including Valley View Township in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental; Tandikan Ville in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Port Town and San Miguel Residences in Manila; and Pascualer 7 and 10 in Quezon City.
