Visa launches Visa Pay to expand digital payments in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Visa has officially launched Visa Pay, a mobile-first solution that provides consumers and businesses in the Democratic Republic of Congo with seamless access to digital payments and account-to-account money transfers.
The platform is designed to be interoperable, secure, and inclusive, making it possible for both banked and unbanked users to pay, get paid, and move money across participating banks and mobile networks.
A mobile-first solution for accessibility
Visa Pay prioritizes accessibility, affordability, and convenience for individuals and businesses. The app offers easy enrolment, strong risk and fraud prevention tools, and near real-time transfers in both Congolese francs (CDF) and U.S. dollars (USD).
It also supports cash in and cash out at bank branches, while enabling online payments through virtual cards. This flexibility ensures that consumers can manage transactions both digitally and in person.
Powered by partnerships
The rollout of Visa Pay is made possible through collaborations with eight financial institutions: Access Banque, BGFI, Equity Bank, FBN, Sofibanque, Solidaire Banque, TMB, and UBA.
The service is available via a standalone mobile app on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and it also integrates into existing banking apps, allowing institutions to embed Visa Pay features directly into their platforms.
Sophie Kafuti, General Manager for Visa DRC, said:
“We are excited to launch Visa Pay, an interoperable solution to scale digital payments in the country. The launch is part of our commitment to driving innovative solutions as a catalyst for greater financial inclusion, helping to provide broader access to the digital economy. Through Visa Pay, we aim to stimulate economic growth and to help establish the DRC as a regional leader in financial technology.”
By combining innovation with local partnerships, Visa aims to boost financial inclusion, support economic growth, and empower both individuals and businesses to fully participate in the digital economy.
