Kardashian Sisters Not Pleased with ‘American Crime Story’ Portrayal of their Family
The TV anthology “The People vs O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” is trying to connect the dots between the Kardashian family and their hunger for fame.
In a scene this week, the show featured the Kardashian kids – Rob, Khloe, Kourtney and Kim, all seated in front of the television as they cheered on their father, Robert. Their father, a lawyer, is OJ Simpson’s best friend who was tasked to read the athlete’s suicide note on TV. Those events happened in real life, but the Kardashian siblings say some of the scenes, especially with the kids cheering on the Kardashian patriach, didn’t happen. Kim was said to have called the efforts of the show’s writers and producers as “ridiculous,” TMZ reported.
“We’re told the sisters absolutely remember watching their dad reading O.J.’s letter during the news conference, and they were certainly used to people, in general, screwing up their name — but the cheering while watching TV simply “never happened,” wrote the news outlet.
Show writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski admitted that some scenes had been added to the series deliberately. In the episode airing next week, Robert Kardashian will supposedly have a scene telling his children not to be obsessed with fame.
“We know that Robert Kardashian was not a man who sought the limelight. We do know that Shapiro pushed him in front of the TV cameras to read the suicide note that day, which was not something he was comfortable with,” said Alexander via Vulture.
“What’s interesting about Kardashian is he was someone I don’t think Scott and I had any particular opinion about before we started researching. We discovered he was a good man. He was the one guy in this case that didn’t have any other weird motive involved. He was there because his best friend said he didn’t do it, and he loved his friend, and he was going to remain loyal to his pal and see this to the end. Eventually, he gets very conflicted and he starts to wonder whether his friend actually did do it. For us he became a very rich, heartfelt character,” said Karaszewski.
“We assume his four kids are all watching TV. They’re going to see their dad on TV and they’re going to be excited, like any kids would be.”
