Number Coding suspended until New Year
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), commonly known as Number Coding Scheme, for three consecutive days in time for the holiday celebrations on Dec. 30-31, 2015 and Jan. 1, 2016.
“The Number Coding Scheme is lifted (Metro Manila wide/all cities) on the following days: Dec. 30 & 31, 2015 and Jan. 1, 2016,” the MMDA said in its advisory.
Rizal Day (Dec. 30) and New Year’s Day (Jan. 1) are regular holidays while Dec. 31 has been declared special non-working day by Malacañang.
Under the Number Coding Scheme, which aims to ease the volume of traffic on Metro Manila’s streets, vehicles are banned from major roads from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., depending on the last digit of their license plates.
Meanwhile, the city government of Makati has issued a traffic advisory ahead for the traditional New year’s eve countdown.
The portion of J.P. Rizal Extension from Lawton Avenue to Buting will be closed from 2 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2015 to 2 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2016 to make way for the staging of Shout! Makati New Year’s Eve Countdown at the University of Makati Track & Field Oval.
Only residents of Barangay West Rembo and Barangay East Rembo, to be identified by Bantay Bayan personnel, will be allowed to pass through that section of the road.
All other vehicles will be rerouted to Kalayaan Avenue going to C-5 Road and Buting.
Motorists coming from Guadalupe/EDSA are advised to turn right to Lawton Avenue, turn left to Kalayaan Avenue and then right at C-5 Road towards destination (southbound), or take elevated U-turn and turn right to Buting and Pateros, or straight ahead toward Pasig (northbound).
Motorists bound for Guadalupe/EDSA are advised to take Kalayaan Avenue via elevated U-turn and turn right to Lawton Avenue, then turn left to Guadalupe toward destination. Instead of turning right to Lawton Avenue, motorists may opt to go straight along Kalayaan Avenue toward EDSA or Guadalupe.
Meanwhile, one-side parking will be implemented along J.P. Rizal Extension (UMAK side).
Only vehicles with car pass will be allowed to enter UMAK and Makati Park & Garden. (PNA)
