GAC E8 HEV Ditches Range Anxiety for Philippine Road Trips
GAC Philippines is betting big on hybrids for Filipino families who aren’t ready to go fully electric. The automaker’s E8 HEV promises long-distance freedom without a single stop at a charging station.
The E8 HEV is one of three new MPVs rolling out under GAC’s expanded lineup. It joins the gas-powered GN6 and the plug-in GN8 PHEV Executive, giving buyers a hybrid option that skips the plug entirely.
GAC E8 HEV Tackles Range Anxiety With Self-Charging Hybrid Power
Unlike a full EV, the E8 HEV never needs a charging station. Its 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine works with an electric motor to recharge the battery automatically while driving.
Combined, the setup produces 182 PS and 300 Nm of torque, according to GAC Philippines. The automaker says the hybrid system returns a WLTC fuel economy rating of 5.58 liters per 100 kilometers.
That efficiency, paired with a 60-liter fuel tank, gives the E8 HEV a total range of more than 1,000 kilometers on one fill-up. For families driving to the provinces, that means fewer stops and less need to plan around fuel or charging infrastructure.
Inside the GAC E8 HEV: Seating, Comfort, and Philippine Pricing
The seven-seat MPV uses a “Magic Storage” seating system that reconfigures the cabin into 18 different layouts. Folding the third row flat expands cargo space from 345 liters to as much as 1,917 liters.
GAC also added a feature called “Tea Break Mode,” which flips the rearmost seats to face outward. It turns the tailgate into an impromptu lounge for picnics, road-trip breaks, or waiting out traffic.
The top-spec GX variant adds ventilated, massaging captain’s seats with power leg rests in the second row. Both variants get a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus seven USB ports.
Pricing starts at 1,858,000 Philippine pesos for the GL variant and 1,998,000 pesos for the GX. GAC Philippines is offering introductory discounts of 80,000 pesos on both trims for reservations made until September 30, 2026.
The E8 HEV is available now at GAC dealerships nationwide, backed by a five-year or 150,000-kilometer warranty. For Filipino families eyeing an electrified upgrade, it offers a lower-risk entry point than a full EV.
