Creamline got the job done in the first phase of its title-retention drive, overpowering BaliPure, 25-8, 25-19, 25-14, to complete an eight-game sweep of the first round elims of the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan last night.
Alyssa Valdez turned in another superb outing of 18 points while playmaker Jia Morado returned from a bout with stomach flu, produced 14 excellent sets to help her teammates pump in 40 attack points.
Jema Galanza also had eight markers and Heather Guino-o added six points for the Cool Smashers, who, however, will miss Valdez and Morado, who will be joining the national team pool’s training camp in Thailand before spearheading the Phl squad’s campaign in the Southeast Asian Grand Prix starting Sept. 20.
BaliPure, which drew 10 points from Menchie Tubiera, slipped to 2-5 as Grazielle Bombina, who fired a conference-high 31 points in a losing stand against the BanKo-Perlas Spikers last Wednesday, struggled with nine markers.
Earlier, hounded by the upstart Chef’s Classics in the second set, PacificTown Army regrouped and went to its power game to frustrate its young rival and snap a three-game skid with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-13 victory.
