Typhoon ‘Nona’ exits, 115 villages still flooded in Central Luzon
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga –Typhoon Nona has left the country a few days ago, but its effect still being felt in most parts of Central Luzon.
Report from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) showed that some 115 villages in the provinces of Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Pampanga are still submerged to floodwaters.
Residents in six villages in Aurora and 49 barangays in Nueva Ecija are still enduring floods despite the improved weather condition.
On the other hand, backfloods coming from the provinces of Aurora and Nueva Ecija cascaded in Pampanga and Bulacan.
As a result, 46 villages in the towns of Arayat, Candaba, Apalit, San Luis, San Simon and Macabebe, all in Pampanga submerged to floodwaters from one foot up to seven feet high.
The municipality of Candaba was worst hit with 17 villages submerged to floodwaters, prompting local officials to place it under the state of calamity.
In Bulacan, rampaging backfloods from Nueva Ecija and Pampanga inundated by floodwaters the 14 villages in the towns of San Miguel, Calumpit, Hagonoy and Pulilan.
The RDRRMC also reported that some 21 road sections in the region are still not passable to all types of vehicles.
These include seven sections in Nueva Ecija-Aurora road; Cabanatuan City-Carmen road (1); San Jose City-Rizal road (1); Pantabangan-Camili-Basal-Baler (4); Baliwag-Candaba-Sta.Ana road (3) and the Sta Rosa-Tarlac road (3).
A total of 92,257 families or 426,597 persons in 406 barangays of the provinces of Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Tarlac were displaced by typhoon Nona.
