Gilas Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao has officially stepped down from the men’s national basketball team, according to reports from multiple Philippine sports websites Wednesday.
“SBP [Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas] wanted to ensure that the basketball program we have is a unifying brand from the men’s team to women’s to the youth,” Aquino explained. “Gilas represents puso and all teams are working together towards a common goal to make the nation proud.”
“We are more than happy to accommodate Remy and make him part of our Gilas Pilipinas program. However, we are constrained by the FIBA ruling that says a player hoping to play as a local must have a local passport before the age of 16,” – SBP president Al Panlilio #GilasPilipinas
“We also commend Kai for his commitment to play for Batang Gilas in the World Cup in Greece, and in future international competitions of the men’s national team, Gilas Pilipinas, including the FIBA World Cup here in 2023,” – SBP President Al Panlilio.

Pangilinan, called on all national members to submit their updated Membership Information Sheet (MIS), along with other pertinent documents showing that they have conducted the required number of tournaments in the last 2 years, in preparation for the coming SBP general elections in April.
