Motolite bucked the absence of injured top hitter Myla Pablo and re-grouped in the decider to pull off a tough 25-16, 25-21, 19-25, 29-31, 19-17 decision in their first round elims clash with BanKo Perlas last Sept. 11. Motolite would win two of its next three games without the former National U star to firm up its semis bid with a 7-3 slate for third.
The Cool Smashers kicked off their title-retention campaign on a three-win romp, all in straight-set fashion, making them the favorites over the Perlas Spikers in the 6 p.m. main dish of another explosive triple-bill in the all-Filipino conference of the league organized by Sports Vision. #PVL
Alyssa Valdez spearheaded the Cool Smashers’ fiery offense by scoring almost at will on Zones 2 and 4 and even on Zone 6 while the rest, including Michele Gumabao, Risa Sato and Jema Galanza, provided the needed support and setter Jia Morado kept Motolite’s defense guessing with her brilliant playmaking all throughout the encounter.

If one were to go with the elims record, the Angels and the Cool Smashers could be heading to a face-off following the two teams’ sweep of the Perlas Spikers and the Lady Troopers, respectively, in the double-round qualifiers. #PVL
Olena Lymareva-Flink of Ukraine closed out her performance the way she started it – in fiery fashion, blasting in a kill to wrap up the 69-minute romp that formalized the Lady Troopers’ claim on the third semis seat with a 5-5 card. #PVL
