Climate justice activists slam coal financiers

CLIMATE justice activists, composed of civil society groups and people’s organizations, held a concerted action today at the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Ayala Triangle to protest the Ayala-controlled bank’s planned financing of a new coal-fired power plant in Atimonan, Quezon.

We’ve Signed the Treaty, It’s Time To Break Free!

Last March 14, members of the Senate unanimously voted to pass the Paris Agreement. While having its own share of flaws, the Paris Agreement obligates party governments to commit to a 1.5 degrees Celsius global temperature by shifting from dirty fossil fuel energy to renewable energy alternatives. However, the Department of Energy’s Energy Plan has yet to reflect this commitment, and its troubling pronouncements on increasing indigenous coal extraction and turning to nuclear energy only raises additional concerns, rather than building on the Paris Agreement.
