SINGAPORE, Mar – With the just 34 days away, rugby fans young and old got a preview what to expect during the 2017 on 15 and 16 April at the National Stadium.

Nifty footwork and neat passing was the order of the day as 20 youths from Sport Singapore’s SportCares programme kicked off the day’s activities by taking part in the first ever three-on-three Tag Rugby fun competition in a shopping mall.

Following the Tag Rugby tournament, rugby fans as young as three years old had a chance to “Kick with the Pros” as national players and Jonny Barber made an appearance. Participants enjoyed some tips from the national players and had two chances to kick a rugby ball into a wheelie-bin to win a HSBC premiums.

Besides the excitement of the kicking challenge which saw participants rocking colourful celebrations and plenty of cheers from spectators, fans also had a chance to learn different rugby skills at booths like “Pass Like a Pro” (Make a perfect pass through a ball-shaped hole), “Kick Like a Pro” (Kick the ball over crossbar to win a prize) and “Catch Like a Pro” (Catch as many rugby balls as you can in 20 seconds) .

“It’s a pleasure to meet kids and their parents to share with them more about rugby and 7s culture,” said national player Guillaume Galy. “Today’s event introduces rugby to potential players through simple yet fun games and challenges. Roadshows like these also build up anticipation and excitement towards the main event which is the Rugby 7s. As seen from the large number of families attending today’s roadshow and having great fun, the Rugby 7s is really a great event for the whole family.”

Trip to Fiji and other great ticketing promotions at 7s Roadshow

Besides taking part in rugby games, visitors to the Novena 7s roadshow could also take part in the “Guess and Win a Trip for Two to Fiji” contest. All they had to do is guess the number of DHL boxes inside the Volvo XC60 luxury SUV on display, take a photo with the XC60 and submit their guess and photo to the facebook page @VolvoCarsSG. The winner with the closest guess will get a pair of round trip tickets to Fiji worth over S$2,000.

For one day only, visitors to the HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s roadshow enjoyed a 15% discount on two-day Category One S$150 passes. Many families were also seen enquiring about the different family packages on offer for this year’s edition of the Singapore 7s. In addition to the usual family package of four (two adults and two children or youths) priced at S$260, this year organisers had introduced a one adult and one child package going for S$140 and a package for one adult and two children priced at S $180.

“The Roadshow was a fun affair for the whole family,” said Mdm Lim Poh Yim, who attended with her two sons, 9 and 11. “The kids had fun trying the different challenges and its great that organisers have different ticketing deals and promotions. The whole family, including my husband, is looking forward to dressing up in costumes and attending the tournament during Easter Weekend.”
