‘Red’ Starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren To Get A TV Show Adaptation On NBC

Red_ver7After two film releases, “Red,” the movie that featured stars like Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren as bad-ass action heroes, is being developed for television.

According to Deadline, NBC has scored the deal to adapt the movie into a one-hour weekly series. Lionsgate TV will be behind the production, along with  Di Bonaventura Pictures Television.

The films, released in 2010 and 2013 and were such giant hits at the box office,  were written by  Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber based on a comic book series that DC Comics. They will also become part of the TV show development. The comic book was created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner.

To the unfamiliar, “RED” is short for Retired Extremely Dangerous Operatives and follows the activities of former CIA agents and assassins who have gone back to work for a final mission.

Deadline said that the plot of the series will be similar to the film’s concept. “But will be set in a more grounded and authentic world, focusing on the characters’ darkly hilarious struggles to survive civilian life as they simultaneously fight for and against the very organization that threw them out.”

The main cast from the movies will not be part of the television show, according to Slash Film. Casting announcements, however are not yet underway.
