‘Pokemon’ Live-Action Has Found Its Director In ‘Goosebumps’ Helmer Rob Letterman

The live-action treatment of “Pokemon” has finally snagged a director. Rob Letterman, who helmed “Goosebumps,” will be taking the reigns for Legendary Pictures. Filming is expected to begin in early 2017.

“Pokemon” live-action has been in the development for sometime. The studio hopes to ride the wave of the the popular video game following th release of “Pokemon Go” and “Pokemon Sun and Moon.”

“Despite not being as powerful and nimble as other Pikachu of his kind, [Detective Pikachu is] rather intelligent and claims to be a great detective,” the movie’s synopsis reads. “One day, Pikachu encounters a boy named Tim Goodman, who is able to understand what he is saying. Thus, the two begin working together to solve various mysteries revolving around Pokémon in the city.”

Rob Letterman seems to be the perfect choice as he has worked with “creatures” before, along with movies like “Shark Tale” and “Monsters vs. Aliens.”

Casting details have yet to be announced. But it will be interesting to see how the movie version will click with viewers when the game releases have been such a hit.

“Pokemon” also has a cartoon series version that has been a hit. The character from Nintendo recently celebrated its 20th year.
