It was indeed an unbelievable mix up on Oscar night as Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway blurted out the wrong winner for Best Picture. Oscar accountants are now apologizing for the big mistake. They apparently are in charge of giving the envelopes to the presenters.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which tabulated the results, owned up to the mistake in an official statement. “We sincerely apologize to ‘Moonlight’, ‘La La Land’, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture,” the firm’s message stated.

“The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation.”

Two reps from the firm carried two sets of briefcases with identical contents for security purposes. But it was unclear how the wrong envelope ended up in Beatty’s and Dunway’s hands.

It took more than two minutes for the Oscars to correct what happened and by then, producers from “La La Land” already blurted out their winning speeches on television when the honor was supposed to go to “Moonlight.” Viewers and even the Hollywood stars in the audience were left stunned by what happened.
