Latina actress Diane Guerrero, whose TV work include “Orange Is The New Black” (OITNB) and “Jane The Virgin,” has been picked to star in the immigration drama “In The Country We Love.” The show is from Jennie Synder Urman, the creator of “Jane The Virgin,” and it will be running on CBS if it proceeds with the development.

Deadline reports that the project is actually based on the book that Guerrero herself co-wrote with Michelle Burford. The book entitled “In The Country We Love: My Family Divided,” chronicles Guerrero’s experience after her parents were deported to Colombia. The actress was just a teenager living in Boston with her family when this happened.

Guerrero, now 30, is one of White House’s Ambassador for Citizenship and Naturalization and is a staunch supporter of immigration reforms. She works with various Latino groups that safeguard the rights of the minority and the immigrants.

Guerrero also conducts talks about immigration and experience, especially after sinking into depression and alcholism when her parents were deported. She vows to continue helping with immigration. “If nothing else, to fix the system — to come to some sort of solution,” the actress declared.

In the meantime, the actress’ will soon be seen on the return of “Jane the Virgin” on The CW, where she plays one of Jane’s friends at work. She’s also set to return to work for “Orange is the New Black’s” new season on Netflix.
