Manila Water continues advocacy on environmental protection, desludges more than 280k septic vaults in 2016

True to its commitment on advocating environmental protection and stewardship, East Zone concessionaire Manila Water desludged a total of 281,186 septic tanks in 2016 benefiting additional 364,266 households in its concession area.

“To meet the increasing demand of our customers for desludging services, Manila Water deploys 50 vacuum trucks to cover the volume of septage generated by barangays in eastern Metro Manila and Rizal Province, Manila Water Corporate Strategic Affairs Group Head Jeric Sevilla Jr. explained.

Sevilla also urged the public to seek Manila Water’s assistance to have their septic vaults cleaned every five years to prevent clogging. “This (desludging) service comes at no additional cost to our customers as ideally, septic tanks should be cleaned every 5 years to avoid overflows that will result in dirty water seeping into groundwater or directly running off into creeks and rivers,” Sevilla added.

In a related development, Manila Water continues to build more used waste infrastructure facilities as the company takes on a parallel focus on used water treatment and management. To date, Manila Water operates a total of 41 used water treatment plants that could treat 310 million liters per day of used water making the company the largest sewage treatment plant operator in the country. Manila Water also maintains a total of 133,327 sewer connections.

Manila Water is the private concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System that provides water and used water services to the cities of Pasig, Marikina, Taguig, Makati, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Pateros, portions of Quezon City and Manila and Rizal Province.
