‘Dragon Ball Z’ Animated Series Returning With New Episodes After 18 Years

Dragon Ball Z is returning to television after 18 years

Toei Animation in Japan has announced that it has started working on a new “Dragon Ball Z” show, marking the series’ return to the small screen after 18 years.

The news comes after its film features “Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods” and the soon to be released “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F” has been receiving good feedback from fans of the animated series. Production for the rebooted television show, “Dragon Ball Super” is already underway said the studio and it is expected to premiere in Japan by July 15.

The premise of “Dragon Ball Super” will involve the events after Goku’s battle with Majin Buu. Akira Toriyama, the animation’s original creator remains involved with the project along with Fuji Television.

“Having loved Dragon Ball since childhood, it is very exciting to be a part of this project,” Osamu Nozaki from Fuji Television said in a statement released to the press. “Mr. Toriyama has developed a plot that’s not only a dream come true for Dragon Ball’s millions of fans, but one that will foster in a new generation of viewers.”

“Dragon Ball” started as a lowly Japanese TV series in 1984 and has grown into a huge entertainment brand. Shown in over 70 countries, the show is one of the most popular anime series ever produced.  The final series,  “Dragon Ball GT,” aired in 1997.

he last new Dragon Ball TV show was Dragon Ball GT, which aired way back in 1996 and 1997. A film taking place after the events of the Majin Buu saga, called Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ premiered in Japan earlier this month, with a worldwide release due in future.

“I hope that this series will last a long time and have the same impact around the world as its predecessor,” said Masako Nozawa,the actress who voices Son Goku, Son Gohan and Son Goten.
