The Denver Broncos suddenly found themselves in an unfamiliar territory several weeks after winning Super Bowl 50. The defending champions have no starting quarterback at this point after losing both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, which fueled rumors suggesting that they will chase Robert Griffin III or Colin Kaepernick.

Manning announced his retirement on Monday after winning the second Super Bowl of his career. Osweiler was tipped to take his place, but the 25-year-old bolted out of Denver and signed with the Houston Texans. According to NFL.com, Osweiler accepted a lucrative four-year, $72 million deal with a $12 million signing bonus.

The Broncos are now forced to look for other options. And according to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Broncos will consider signing Griffin, who was released by the Washington Redskins on Monday.

Griffin, who was the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and was a former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, did not get the opportunity to make an impact last season, losing his starting spot for the entire year. But despite coming off a disastrous year, David Steele of Sporting News argued that signing RG3 will be a good move for Denver.

However, the Broncos will reportedly face strong competition in the race to sign RG3. According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, Griffin is expected the draw the interest of at least 10 teams, which could include the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.

In the event they fail to sign RG3 this summer, the Broncos have other options, though. NFL Media Insider revealed on Wednesday that the Broncos could also reach out to the 49ers about a possible trade involving Kaepernick. Previous reports revealed that Kaepernick and his agents have asked the 49ers to seek a trade.

“Expect the Broncos to turn their attention to Kaepernick, to try to work out a trade with the 49ers,” Rapoport said. “There have been several teams sniffing around Kaepernick the last several days, but it is obvious that Osweiler is the big domino to fall here.”

Kaepernick appeared in nine games last season, where he tallied just 1,615 passing yards for six touchdowns with five interceptions. The 28-year-old quarterback, who was once considered untouchable after an impressive sophomore season in San Francisco, was benched after a humiliating 2-6 start for the 49ers last season.
