Multiple reports have come out that PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa may soon be out as top brass for Asia’ pro hoops. A lot of that had to do with his decision to approve the celebrated Kia Picanto-San Miguel Beer trade which critics and fans deemed lopsided.
There were hardly any surprises at the 2017 PBA Draft. Fil-German Christian Standhardinger was unsurprisingly selected by the San Miguel Beermen while Kiefer Ravena joined the NLEX Road Warriors.
The controversial PBA trade between Kia Picanto and the San Miguel Beermen will push through. PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa approved the deal Friday afternoon at a press conference held at the Philippine Arena before game 7 of the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.
Game 6 of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals is pretty much set in the same fashion with that of last year. If one checks out the recap of the 2016 edition, the Ginebra Gin Kings come into the game holding a 3-2 advantage over the Meralco Bolts.
Overshadowing the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals is that celebrated trade involving Kia Picanto and the San Miguel Beermen. At stake is the rights to the top overall pick of the 2017 PBA Draft set to take place this coming Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at the Midtown Atrium, Robinsons Place Manila.
Sol Mercado of Barangay Ginebra was absent for game 5 of the 2017 PBA Governors Cup Finals after falling to an injury in game 4. The “Sol-Train” is currently dealing with a high-grade ankle sprain but was on hand to support the Gin Kings at the Philippine Arena.
The Beermen are now offering Yancy de Ocampo, Ronald Tubid, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser and Rashawn McCarthy.
Kia Picanto owns the rights to the top overall pick of the 2017 PBA Draft and several teams are understandably trying to strike a deal. TnT KaTropa was previously linked but the latest club to pitch is the San Miguel Beermen.
TnT KaTropa took a big chance on Glen Rice Jr., likely aware of his unfortunate past. The son of NBA legend Glen Rice Sr. ran into trouble in 2016 when he was arrested on battery and robbery charges according to TMZ and the Albany Herald.
Gilas Pilipinas is facing tall odds at the FIBA Asia Cup in Lebanon, sorely lacking in size. Andray Blatche passed for safety reasons while June Mar Fajardo is nursing an injury.
