A ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ Reboot? Will Smith Developing A Comedy Series Similar To His ’90s Show

The_Fresh_Prince_of_Bel-Air_Cast“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ” launched Will Smith’s career as a rapper and actor in the 1990s. The show ran for six seasons on NBC, before finally bowing out in 1996. According to news sources, it may be returning to the small screen.

Will Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, is said to be in the stages of development for a “Fresh-Prince” reboot. According to TV Line, the new show will be doing a present-day version of this fish out of the water story, but the show’s logline has yet to be revealed.

Deadline clarified that the series is informally referred to as the new “Fresh Prince” because the planned series has the same setup as the original show, and Will Smith is involved in the project. But as of the latest reports on the development on-goings, the planned series will have new characters and a new storyline.

Currently, there are still no writers and studios attached, and as reports have stated, it is still in the “idea phase.”

“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” also starred Alfonso Ribeiro, James Avery and Tatyana Ali. The premise involves a California middle-class African-American family who has come to accept a street-smart teenager (played by Will) into their own.

The news comes as TV is doing major revivals on 90s shows like “The X-Files,” “Coach,” “Twin Peaks,” and “Full House.”
