Netflix’s latest sensation, Joe Exotic, the star of the documentary series Tiger King, is reportedly in coronavirus isolation from prison. His husband Dillon Passage revealed this fact after Exotic was moved to a new facility in Texas.

The Tiger King subject needed to be transferred as his former prison in Oklahoma had cases of COVID-19. Exotic and the rest of the inmates who were moved to the new facility have been ordered to go into isolation.

Dillon confirmed the details to Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show last April 1. Entertainment Tonight reported that Exotic will not be able to make phone calls or use the internet while in a 14-day quarantine.

“We speak like three to five times every day, but since he’s been moved to this new facility, they are putting him on a COVID-19 isolation because of the previous jail he was at, there were cases,” his husband said. “I’ve yet to speak to him since he moved.”

Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, is serving a 22-year sentence for paying someone off to kill his nemesis Carole Baskin, the animal rights activist. Exotic has accused Baskin of trying to shut down his private wildlife zoo for many years.

Baskin is also the operator of Big Cat Rescue, another wildlife zoo. She and Exotic have had this feud for decades, with Exotic apparently claiming that Baskin killed her second husband, the multi-millionaire Don Lewis, and fed his body to her big cats.

The animal advocate has since criticized Tiger King for its coverage and said that she was forced to appear in the documentary. She also denied Exotic’s claims about her husband’s murder.

Tiger King was released on Netflix last March 20, amid many viewers staying at home due the pandemic. The series shot up to the most-watched spot on the streaming platform because of the lockdowns.
