Daniel Dae Kim is joining the cast of the medical drama New Amsterdam on NBC. The actor, who previously starred in Hawaii Five-O, is going to make his debut in an episode airing on April 7.

Kim is not new to medical drama shows. He is the executive producer of the ABC medical drama The Good Doctor and has appeared on it as Dr. Jackson Han in at least three episodes last season.

In New Amsterdam, Kim will play Dr. Cassian Shin, the head of the trauma surgery. His character arrives as the hospital is undergoing staff changes. Dr. Floyd Reynolds, played by Jocko Sims, announced that he plans to move to California with his fiancee.

Sims, however, is mum about his character’s future in the series. The actor only used emojis to address New Amsterdam fans about Dr. Reynolds’ fate. Will he really move to California and leave his practice behind?

Meanwhile, Kim’s debut episode, titled “Pandemic,” tackles a virus that is quickly infecting people, just like in real life with Covid-19. The episode synopsis detailed: In the “Pandemic” episode, an unknown, deathly strain of the flu causes chaos at the hospital. Meanwhile, a new doctor’s (Kim) unorthodox medical practices test Sharpe’s (Freema Agyeman) patience.

Kim also addressed the fact that Hawaii Five-0 has been canceled on CBS after 10 seasons. The final episode will also air in April.

“Sad to hear about the cancellation of #H50. Not only did it employ 100s of people (and many friends), it contributed millions to the island’s economy & most of all, meant so much to the people of #Hawaii. Shows may come & go, but the legacy of Hawaii 5-0 will remain. #Aloha Oe,” the actor wrote on Twitter.

Kim left Hawaii Five-0 after his negotiations with CBS fell through to return in season 8. The actor apparently wanted to be paid the same fee as lead star Scott Caan made. Regardless, Kim said he was grateful for the experience in Hawaii Five-0.

Meanwhile, ahead of Kim’s appearance, NBC has already renewed New Amsterdam for three more seasons.
