FIBA Asia Cup: Gilas Pilipinas qualifiers home game vs Thailand cancelled due to nCoV

FIBA has announced the cancellation of 3 upcoming 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers games, including the Philippines-Thailand match scheduled for February 20 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The suspensions of the games were due to safety reasons following the 2019 novel corona virus outbreak. They will be rescheduled soon.

Gilas Pilipinas has been preparing for Thailand for a week now, although a handful of players, including Christian Standhardinger and Japeth Aguilar, have pulled out of the roster.

NLEX Road Warriors guard Kiefer Ravena was appointed team captain a few days earlier.

There is no news yet regarding Gilas’ February 23 battle against Indonesia to be played on the road.

As of Friday, February 14, more than 64,000 people have been affected by the virus, and 1,383 have died.

There are 33 confirmed cases so far in Thailand, and three in the Philippines.
