New Indonesian basketball team head coach Rajko Toroman said his new squad is not yet at the same level as Southeast Asian powerhouse Philippines, according to a recent report by ESPN5.

When asked if his Indonesian squad could put up a fight against the Philippines, Toroman, the former Smart-Gilas Pilipinas I mentor said per ESPN5’s Richard Dy: “Not at the moment.”

“We just started our preparation for the SEA Games. The SEA Games is our small goal. Our main goal will be windows. We have to qualify for FIBA Asia in 2021,” added Toroman.

Indonesia will co-host the 2023 FIBA World Cup along with the Philippines and Japan but their participation is still probationary, which is why the Indonesian Basketball Federation is making the necessary steps in trying to make their national team even more competitive.

Recently, Indonesia tapped the presence of Denzel Bowles, a perennial PBA import, to serve as their naturalized player.
