MPBL: Voyagers out to stretch streak

Games Tuesday (Cuneta Astrodome)
4 p.m. – Bulacan vs Navotas
6:30 p.m. – Makati vs Marikina
9 p.m. – Pasay vs Parañaque

Pasay tries to extend its winning run to six when it takes on Paranaque in the main game of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Season at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Expect the home crowd from Pasay to come out in full force to support their very own Voyagers, who had made strides lately following five consecutive wins. By winning five in a row, Pasay has catapulted its way up to sixth spot in the tough northern division.

The Voyagers will face the Yabo Sports-Patriots, who are also coming off an inspiring win over inaugural staging champions Batangas City Athletics a few days ago. Game time is 9 p.m.

For the Voyagers, starting the two thirds of the elimination round has put themselves in a much better position to launch a possible playoff bid.

Last season, they missed the chance of cracking the quarterfinal round, but they had shown a lot of spunk under new coach Keith Marlon Martin as the team improved its win-loss record to 8-5 in the fastest growing regional amateur basketball league in the country.

For the Patriots, a victory over the Voyagers would resurrect their confidence a bit more as the squad of coach Mike Saguiguit and playing team manager Jemal Vizcarra guns for back-to-back triumphs. Parañaque carries a 4-9 slate and a win against Pasay would put the squad into a tie for 11th to 12th spots with idle Valenzuela.

Four more teams will also see action in the day’s scheduled triple-header.

Bulacan, which won two straight games under new mentor Kerwin McCoy, will try to continue its winning form against Navotas in the curtain raiser at 4 p.m. followed by the match between Makati and Marikina at 6:30 p.m.

The Kuyas of Bulacan are just half a game behind the Voyagers and winning over the Clutch would be necessary.

Makati is aching to bounce back from a previous loss it suffered to Bulacan and wants to vent ite ire against Marikina. Despite losing their previous game, the Super Crunch are still in the upper half of the standings of the northern division with a 9-2 mark.
