PBA: Alapag, now with San Miguel, to face TNT anew

For the 1st time in his storied basketball career, Jimmy Alapag will be on San Miguel’s side when the historic franchise faces the TNT KaTropa, the team Alapag played with for a decade and a half and made many lasting memories.

Now an assistant coach for the Beermen, Alapag will try to mentor key players like Chris Ross, Terrence Romeo, and Alex Cabagnot against the TNT franchise where he won 6 championships as a player on top of a season MVP award.

Alapag, though, insists the thought wouldn’t be that much entertained throughout the series, which starts on Sunday, August 4.

“At the end of the day, a job needs to be done,” said Alapag per the PBA official website. “I’m here helping San Miguel … I’ll do what I can to help the coaching staff and the players to win another championship.”

It isn’t the 1st time Alapag has coached or played against TNT, as he suited up for the Meralco Bolts a couple of years back after unretiring from his 1st retirement.

Alapag said he still maintains a good relationship with most of the players he’s played with under the MVP-owned squad. He is now looking forward to a “great series” between two storied PBA clubs.

“I’m still very close to the guys on that team,” he said. “They’ve been great the entire conference … It will be a great series.”
