Long-time Filipino national football team goal keeper Neil Etheridge was hailed player of the year by his Premier League club Cardiff City FC following a sensational showing for the Bluebirds this season.

Etheridge, who signed with Cardiff City in 2017, made a phenomenal 127 saves throughout the EPL season, the second most in the league.

He also deflected three penalty kicks, the most tied with Everton’s Jordan Pickford, leading to Cardiff City fans voting him as their player for the year.

The 29-year-old keeper, who has made 62 caps for the national team Azkals, thanked his fans via Twitter, saying:

“Thank you to everyone who voted for me! Receiving player of the year means so much to me but… I couldn’t have done it without these people! Thank you everyone! Such a great team and squad!”

Etheridge’s Premier League debut was astonishing, saving two penalties in as many matches, paving the way for what was an astonishing season for him.

However, Cardiff City was relegated to the Championship of the English Football League after absorbing a 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace.
