Far Eastern University topped defending champion University of the Philippines, 2-1, to snatch the solo lead Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s football tournament.

Anthony Decena and Jermi Darapan found the back of the net as the Tamaraws now sit on the top of the table with 11 points at the FEU-Diliman pitch.

Still at six points, the Fighting Maroons are now outside the top four range.

Earlier, substitute Conrado Dimacali struck in the 82nd minute as University of Santo Tomas outlasted University of the East in a five-goal thriller, 3-2, to move up at nine points.

Steven Anotado’s consecutive goals in the 60th and 64th minute gave the lead to the Growling Tigers before Mason Vergara struck in the 71st minute for the Red Warriors to get back in the match.

UST improved to nine points to level with idle De La Salle in second place, while UE remained at seven points alongside Ateneo, a 4-0 winner over Adamson University in the last match.

Mark Nacional scored twice while Jarvey Gayoso and rookie Luca Alleje were also on target for the Blue Eagles, who followed up their impressive 5-0 rout of the Growling Tigers last Thursday.
