Monsoon rains cause knee-deep floods in parts of Metro

Floods in some parts of Metro Manila were knee-deep Saturday, as heavy rains battered the capital region due to the storm-enhanced southwest monsoon.

As of 3:30 pm, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported flooding in the following areas:

  • EDSA LRT Balintawak northbound – knee deep, not passable to light vehicles
  • EDSA Quezon Avenue service road – Centris northbound – knee deep, not passable to light vehicles.
  • Quirino Avenue Plaza Dilao northbound – above gutter deep, passable
  • Quirino Pedro Gil – above gutter deep, passable
  • Quirino Guazon – gutter deep, passable
  • Commonwealth Tandang Sora – gutter deep, passable
  • Commonwealth Masaya St. – above gutter deep, passable
  • Mindanao Avenue, 16 – 15 inches deep, passable
  • Araneta Victory Avenue – not passable to all types of vehicles
  • Araneta Talayan – not passable to all types of vehicles
  • Araneta E. Rodriguez – knee deep
  • Quezon Avenue Biak na Bato – knee deep, not passable to light vehicles
  • Espana Maceda/Blumentritt – knee deep, not passable to light vehicles
  • Elliptical East Avenue – gutter deep
  • Rizal Avenue R. Papa- knee deep, not passable to light vehicles

Meanwhile, the Marikina River is on second alarm as the water level has risen to 17.8 meters.

Weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has raised the Red Rainfall Warning over Metro Manila amid torrential rains and serious flooding expected in low-lying areas and near waterways. (PNA)
