University of the Philippines hopes to recover lost grounds as it squares off with winless San Sebastian College today in the lone women’s game in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Lady Maroons kicked off their campaign with a resounding shutout win over the Perpetual Lady Altas but failed to sustain a strong start against the UST Tigresses and succumbed to the latter’s power. They remained at fourth in the eight-team field but want to shore up their bid with a bounce-back win heading to the crucial phase of the single round elims phase.

Gametime is at 2 p.m.

Coach Godfrey Okumu will again pin his hopes on Isa Molde, Nicole Magsarile, Marian Buitre, Aieshalaine Gannaban and skipper Ma. Arielle Estranero but the Lady Maroons expect a strong challenge from the back-to-the-wall Lady Stags.

Winless in three matches, SSC desperately needs a victory to revive its semis hopes in the mid-season conference of the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Mikasa and Asics.

Shane Requierme, Joyce Sta. Rita, Mary Rhose Dapol, Sofia Sarmiento, libero Jewelle Bermillo and playmaker Vea Sison hope to put up one solid outing and surprise the Lady Maroons to stay in the hunt for at least a playoff for the last semifinal seat.

Meanwhile, four matches are on tap in the busy men’s division with streaking Adamson gunning for a fifth victory against Far Eastern U (1-2) at 9 a.m. San Beda, also toting a 1-2 card, faces winless Arellano U at 11 a.m. while National U shoots for a fourth straight win against UP (2-1) at 1 p.m.

St. Benilde (1-2) and Perpetual Help (1-3) clash in the 6 p.m. main game.
