SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — Two children were killed while their mother sustained a minor injury after a landslide struck their house past midnight Sunday in Antique.

The victims were identified as Rosalia Agapito, 6, and Andrew Agapito, 3.

Their neighbors rushed them to Pedro L. Gindap Municipal Hospital but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Their mother, identified as Tessie S. Agapito, fortunately sustained only a minor injury.

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train, in a phone interview, said the landslide occurred at around 2 a.m. in Barangay Binanuan, Barbaza due to continuous heavy rains that have been pounding the province the few past days.

“I have now instructed the Barbaza Municipal DRRMO to evacuate the other families living in the area,” he said in an interview.

Train, who was on his way to the landslide, said there are still families in the landslide-prone area, hence authorities ordered their temporary evacuation.

Meanwhile, provincial information officer Galileo Magbanua, in a phone interview, said he has already informed Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao about the incident.

“The victims were sleeping with their mother in their house at the hilly portion of Barangay Binanuan, Barbaza when the landslide happened,” he said. (PNA)
