NM Bob Jones Liwagon ready to defend title

National Master (NM) lawyer Bob Jones Liwagon said he is set for his title defence when the 7th leg of Alphaland National Executive Chess Championships gets underway on July 28, 2018 at the Meralco Fitness Center in Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.

“Im very happy to be in the upcoming 7th leg of Alphaland National Executive Chess Championships and I’m also happy because despite hectic schedule I can defend my title,” said the 34 years-old Liwagon who hails from Cotabato City, a Captain officer ranks at the Philippine Army.

A former top board player of University of Sto. Tomas (UST) chess team and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Commerce Major in Business Administration graduate student won his biggest award in 2001 after topping the Philippine Age Group Chess championships enroute the coveted National Master title.

Liwagon bested fellow six pointers Ervil Villa and engineer Arjoe Loanzon via superior tiebreaks to secure the title, the top prize P10,000 and elegant trophy of the sixth leg Alphaland National Executive Chess Championship was held last June 30, 2018 at the Activity Hall, Second Floor, Alphaland Makati Place in Malugay Street, Makati City.

Expected to provide stiff competitions are 1st leg winner engineer Benjie Esquejo, 2nd leg victor engineer Arjoe Loanzon, 3rd leg champion chemist Ritchie Evangelista, 4th leg titleholder dentist Jenny Mayor, San Beda Alabang coach Chester Caminong, Sales Director Samivin V. Delos Santos of SM Development Corporation, IT expert Joselito Cada, engineer Ravel Canlas of Pagcor, Dioniver “Bobot” Medrano of SSS, Diwa Learning Systems, Inc. Audit manager Ricky Navalta, Maynilad Water Services top player Romie Lord Guerra and Dandel Fernandez, businessman Emil Colindres, Edwin Sison of Pangasinan now employed in Vital C Health Products , twins educator Joselito & banker Emmanuel Asi of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, Laurence “Larry” Dumadag of Unesco, Makati Hope Christian School head chess coach Marguel Soria, engineer Ferdinand Olivares, and MVP Olympics PLDT Team Manager NCFP Director Martin “Binky” Gaticales, among others.

The one-day National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)-sanctioned rapid tournament, organized by Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) led by it’s president Atty. Cliburn Anthony A. Orbe in close cooperation with One Meralco Foundation Inc.and Alphaland Mall with all games will be aire live on the youtube channel and facebook of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
