Manila Water desludges 104,170 septic tanks in 2017

Ayala-led water utility firm Manila Water has emptied a total of 104,170 septic vaults last year as part of its commitment to further expand the company’s sanitation program in its East Zone concession area.

Manila Water Corporate Strategic Affairs Group Head Jeric Sevilla Jr. said the program benefitted 176,010 households or 108,505 service connections. Sevilla added that in December 2017 alone, Manila Water has desludged 9,312 septic tanks in Marikina, Quezon City and in the municipality of Angono, Rizal benefitting 15,846 households.

The desludging program is regularly conducted in the other cities in its service area – Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Manila, as well as in several towns in the province of Rizal.

Sevilla also appealed to the public to regularly check their septic tanks and have them desludged or emptied every five years to avoid clogging at no additional cost.

For areas with existing sewer network, he also appealed to the residents in the East Zone to connect to the company’s sewer lines.

Customers may inquire from their respective barangays for the schedule of desludging services. They may also call Manila Water’s Hotline 1627.
