“Riverdale” is finally back after the holiday break, kicking off 2018 with Chapter Twenty –Three titled “The Blackboard Jungle.” The show started off with the Southside High being closed, forcing the Serpents to move to Riverdale.

As one would expect, tensions flared with Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) leading the way against a defiant Riverdale gang (led by Reggie Mantle (Ross Butler)). Aside from the escalating civil war between the north and the south, there were returning and new characters in the fray.

Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye) was back and revealed to her sister Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) that she had already given birth to the twins. Nick St. Clair (Graham Phillips) was also back but with two broken legs that were allegedly a result of a skiing accident.

Meet Chic

The new face in the mix is Chic Cooper (Hart Denton). After Betty stumbles on an address for a certain “Charles Smith,” both she and her mother, Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick), decide to pay Chic a visit. Being “disowned,” it was no surprise to see Chic defiant.

Later on, Betty returns and finds Chic right in the middle of getting stabbed. She helps her estranged brother escape and takes him back to their home. Towards the end of the episode, Chic was seen lurking and seemingly up to no good. The psycho-like movement brings back memories of the supposedly dead “Black Hood,” though most know that the dark character still lurks around Riverdale.

Dark Archie

Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) seems to be in disarray once more. However, it turns out that the FBI was the one doing the surveillance and monitoring organized criminal activities around Riverdale. Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) seems to be a target and the FBI agent has started to technically use Archie as a pawn to get down to the bottom of things, TV Line reported. How will this affect Archie’s relationship with Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes)?

Speaking of Veronica, Archie finds out about the attempt of Nick St. Clair to rape Ronnie. Borrowing the suit of the late Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines), Archie visits Nick and does Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) a favor by getting a new check since the previous one was thrown to the fire, EW reported.

Nick does write another check to Cheryl and warns Archie about Veronica. This ticks Archie off, eventually beating up a helpless St. Clair. Nick eventually texted Ronnie about the incident and Archie ends up explaining himself. He mentions how it was all part of a blackmail made by Cheryl though the real reason is that the FBI is on him.

“Riverdale” returns on Jan. 24 on CW with for Chapter Twenty-Four: The Wrestler. Check out the trailer below.
